Yobo: I'm Still Not 100% Fit
Super Eagles captain,Joseph Yobo has told Complete Sports Norwich of England fans and indeed Nigerians have not seen his best yet despite posting what most British newspapers described as a man-of-the-match performance in Norwich City's scoreless tie against Manchester City at Carrow Road on Saturday.
Yobo,a deadline day loan transfer from Turkish giants,Fenerbahce made his debut for the Yellow Cannaries despite training for less than a week with his new teammates but the Nigerian believed his knowledge of the English Premier League and his experience counted for him when Norwich boss,Chris Hughton was drawing up his list.
'I'm happy we are able to get a positive result against Manchester City after many people thought we would be roasted following the 7-0 drubbing the team got in the first meeting at the Etihad last November,''said Yobo who will be in contention again tonight against West Ham at Boleyn Ground.
Yobo is confident the display and result against Manchester City can be the tonic the team needs to go on a run that will ensure their premier league survival.
'We will try to execute whatever the manager wants us to do against West Ham.The match is not about individuals but about the team,''further said Yobo who insists he is not in Norwich to prove anything to anybody other than to help the team.
Yobo reveals his main target is to help Norwich secure their premier league status.
Norwich are presently 16th on the premier league table with 25 points, two points above the relegation zone and Yobo is confident the club will avoid the drop.
''I'm not thinking about the national team for now.I need to play well for my team first before I can start thinking about the Super Eagles. So it's all about Norwich now,'said the most capped Nigerian player.
'I know it is a FIFA World Cup year and it is the dream of every player to be there in Brazil.I want to be there too because I love playing for Nigeria but I need to play well for Norwich first.I am happy I now have an opportunity to show my quality albeit I'm not 100% fit yet.I'm just going to keep on doing my job as a defender,''he told Complete Sports.
