Should I accept money from my mother-in-law?

I am a married man with a beautiful wife and a one year old baby. I recently lost my job without prior notification. I have very little savings to fall back on but my mother-in-law who is very rich says she would be sending me money for my family upkeep. I expected her to give money to her daughter but she's insisting on giving it to me. Should I accept the offer or not, knowing fully well how women can be when they start giving you small change?

It’s the End of the Road for Windows XP and Office 2003!

Do you remember when you first used a computer. It was e-machines. Very solid system then; as were the many other tech brands that have been swept under the carpet by more vibrant product brands over the years. The still image of a lush green meadow that greeted you on th home screen after the usual Windows XP loading bars and fast forward several years later, having to upgrade to Windows Vista and so on.

Matter of fact, Vista was like a major break from the Windows norm and without entirely taking in its features, Windows 7 was launched and was good, not great. Then came Windows 8. Pure class.

Mastery of the art and science of technology. Such ease.  Some people live for the upgrades! Why have some organizations like the very infamous Cyber Cafés, IT driven firms, etc.bluntly refused to upgrade to Windows 8?Are they really skeptical about testing new waters or would they rather stick to the status quo? Or is it because Microsoft still provides support for these old versions of the Windows Operating system? Well, all of that is about to change because, like it or not, global devices and services giant Microsoft has announced the official end of support for Windows XP, Windows XP Professional for Embedded Systems and Office 2003 by April 8, 2014 and therefore urges its customers and partners to migrate to Windows 8 and Office 2013 platform.

Now, ending support in this context means that for Windows XP, Windows XP Professional for Embedded Systems and Office 2003, partners and customers will no longer receive security updates and technical support from Microsoft, which will result in vulnerability to security threats.

According to Oluyomi Alarape, Datacenter Solutions & Sales at Microsoft Nigeria, “There are several re-engineering and attacks that needs to be catered for as a result of the changing technology landscape. Businesses stand to have huge risks if they do not migrate because there will be no security updates to meet security requirements”

In addition, Windows 8 provides mobile security through Bit locker, “Windows To Go”, is a full version of Windows 8 on a USB stick which readily support BYOD “Bring Your Own Device” initiatives.

Awawu Olumide-Sojinrin, Acting Country Manager, Microsoft Nigeria while speaking at a media briefing to announce end of support for the Windows XP and Office 2003 in Lagos, explained that Microsoft is proactive in communicating changes that are critical and important to our customers. As a result, she said Microsoft is taking its time to notify its customers and partners ahead of the April 8 2014 deadline.

Windows 8 is Microsoft’s latest operating system for modern businesses, building on Windows 7 fundamentals such as speed, reliability and security while creating a modern platform for the new generation of hardware experiences from tablets and innovative touch devices to traditional desktops and laptops.

So, as the sun sets for Windows XP, Windows XP Professional for Embedded Systems and Office 2003 users with April 2014 as the deadline for migration to the Windows 8 platform, there are more benefits and featureslike Speedy Boot Time, Innovative & Dynamic Desktop, Improved Search Function, Windows To Go, Windows Live Syncing, etc., which help businesses bounce off of what to do with their older technology as they look to protect valuable IP and customer information. So, how about we leave Windows XP, Windows XP Professional and Office 2003 in the year 2013 and step into the New Year 2014 with the Windows 8. Deal? Yes deal! Happy migration and happy New Year!

BE WARNED!!! Graphic photos: Soldier pictured stabbing man to death in front of a crowd

A group of soldiers in the Central African Republic lynched a man they suspected was a rebel minutes after hearing the new president's promise to restore security at a ceremony to reinstate the divided country's armed forces.

About 20 uniformed soldiers accused a member of the crowd of having belonged to Seleka - the mostly Muslim rebel group that seized power in a coup last March, before stabbing him repeatedly until he was dead.

A soldier stamped on the lifeless body, which was then dragged nearly naked through the streets as residents looked on and took photographs. Continue...
Ten minutes earlier the new interim president, Catherine Samba-Panza, stood just 20m away where she addressed a crowd of at least 1,000 soldiers.

The Army effectively disappeared during nine months of Seleka rule. She told the gathering at a training ground in the capital Bangui: 'Within a month, I would like to fully secure the greater part of the country and I aim to stick to my word.'

Seleka disbanded after Samba-Panza's inauguration last month and is deeply resented by the Christian majority after months of lootings and killings.

Peter Bouckaert, emergencies director at Human Rights Watch in Bangui, tweeted that the corpse of the lynched man had been burned.

He posted a photograph showing a man holding up a severed limb next to a bonfire, as an armed French soldier gestured in the background.

14 year old boy locked up in Iyaganku cell in Ibadan

There was an email from a LIB reader who claims he was recently locked up at a police station called Iyaganku Police Station in Ibadan. While there, he says he saw two boys less than 16 years old who have been locked up there for a few years. I decided to share his mail here just in case. See it below
Hi, I am writing you regarding something I saw some days back in Iyaganku Police Station Ibadan. I was detained by some Policemen of Iyaganku in Ibadan, after which I was put in the cell because I wont co-operate with them. Surprisingly, a boy of about 13-14yrs old came out of one of the cells, I wasn't sure of what I saw because its awkward to find someone so young in a cell, I believe for whatever crime he must have commited, he shouldn't be locked up in a cell, so when I got into my own cell, where I met about 6 other people in the cell, I told them what I saw and to my surprised they weren't shocked, they told me, its no news that the boy is called "State" and he's been locked in that same Iyaganku Cell for over 5yrs, with my calculation, the boy is 14yrs old now, that means he's been locked up since he's 9, when I asked for his crime, I was told he is locked up there because he pushed someone into a well and the person died. Continue...

My Point is this, yeah, the boy committed a crime, but at 9, and this crime is not even something that he must have done intentionally, even if he did intentionally, that is no reason why he should be locked up in a cell for 24hrs let alone 5yrs. My reason for writing you is because I cant bring the boy out of the cell, but I know the media can, that is why I am writing you if there is any human Right Activist you can talk to about this, or if there is something you can do to get the boy his freedom.

I also want you to know that the boy I saw is not even the person who has been locked up for 5yrs, he's just another minor locked up in Iyaganku Police Station, that means they had 2 boys of less than 16yrs old locked up in Iyaganku police station as of Wednesday 05-02-2014

Please and Please. I left Iyaganku that same day but I couldn't sleep well because I know what I saw is not right and I shouldn't just be silent about it.
I would speak to as many people as possible of which you are the fourth person I am writing to about it. I am hoping something would happen soon.

Thanks and I hope you do something about it.
